Role of PM Kaushal Vikas Yojana in Providing Industrial Skill Training

According to a report published in 2019, almost 72 lakh individuals received training under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY). Among them, approximately 52 lakh were granted placements throughout various industries in the country.

The government introduced the PM Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) scheme in an attempt to boost employment rates by providing free industry-standard skill training.

The objectives of PMKVY include:

  • Providing necessary funds to learn industry-related skills, even applicable for school/college dropouts.

  • There are modules that facilitate different training for individuals at various stages of learning.

  • Organising recruitment events every 6 months known as the Kaushal and Rozgar Mela.

Components of PMKYV

  • Short term training (STT) - Provides training as per the National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF). Skills training include digital and financial literacy, entrepreneurship and soft skills.

  • Recognition of prior learning (RPL) - Consists of assessments to recognize previous skills. RPL provides certification for experienced individuals and bridge courses to fill in knowledge gaps.

  • Special projects - Includes specialized job training that is not predefined in Qualification/National Occupational Standards.

Eligibility

  • Must be an Indian citizen with a valid identity proof.

  • Should have dropped out of school/college or is unemployed.

The PM Kaushal Vikas Yojana scheme provides various employment opportunities to individuals to either learn something new or develop their existing knowledge.
