The Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana was launched in 2015 by the Government of India to provide industry-relevant training to eligible individuals. PM Kaushal Vikas Yojana is an attempt to bridge the gap between formal education and the skills required in the industry to secure employment. The government bears all expenses related to such training.

According to PMKVAY reports published in 2019, nearly 72 lakh individuals have been enrolled under this scheme out of which approximately 51 lakh individuals have been able to secure employment.

What are the components of PM Kaushal Vikas Yojana?

The components of Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana are discussed below

  • RPL

Recognition of Prior Learning or RPL is a process of assessing the skills that you already possess along with your experience. After you have received your RPL certification, you can check the PMKVY courses offered by Project Implementing Agencies.

  • Short-term training

You can take short-term training courses provided by the Training Centres registered under PMKVY. These short-term training programmes include entrepreneurship, financial literacy, digital literacy, etc. Some individuals also initiate their start-ups post their training. You can consider availing a loan against property to meet the expenses required as initial investments for your start-up.

  • Kaushal and Rozgar Mela

It is a social and community mobilisation process under this Yojana. It shall be conducted by the Training Partners every 6 months.

  • Monitoring

The training programmes conducted under the PM Kaushal Vikas Yojana are monitored throughout. It is an essential part of the Yojana to ensure individuals are enjoying quality training. It is ensured through processes such as self-auditing.
